Tips
Dual citizenship
You can become a citizen of another country without losing your Australian citizenship, provided the other citizenship is acquired after 4 April 2002.
Citizenship by conferral
If your children were born overseas after you lost your Australian citizenship when you acquired the citizenship of another country, your children are not eligible for citizenship by descent, since you were not an Australian citizen when they were born. However, they can apply for Australian citizenship by conferral.
Checking application progress online
You can access information about the progress of your online application at any time following lodgement. You will need to use your unique Transaction Reference Number (TRN) to do this.
Married to an Australian but living abroad?
Periods spent overseas as a permanent resident of Australia can be counted as periods of permanent residence in Australia for spouses of Australian citizens who can demonstrate a close connection to Australia.
