Citizenship test

How to apply

Once you determine you are eligible for Canadian citizenship and have sufficient knowledge of English or French then you can start the application process. According to Canadian citizenship application procedures, the test must be taken after the application form with necessary documents has been sent and application fees have been paid.

Download the appropriate citizen application form from the Citizenship and Immigration Canada site (www.cic.gc.ca). The site also provides the guide on how to fill the application form. Fill the form accordingly.

You will need to send your completed and sugned application form along with other documents listed below.

1. Receipt of payment of citizenship fees: you will need to pay $100 as processing fee and $100 as Right of Citizenship fees ($200 in total per each person).
2. Two citizenship photos: the photos must meet the photo specifications outlined in the citizenship application; the bottom of the photographs should be signed and both  photos should be placed in a small envelope.
3. Clear photocopy of your Canadian immigration record/paper (either your Record of Landing (IMM 1000) or your Confirmation of Permanent Residence (IMM 5292)), and both sides of your Permanent Resident Card (PRC) if you have one.
4. Clear photocopy of two  pieces of personal identification, one of which must have your photo on it.

Once your application for Canadian citizenship is received you will receive a copy of the book A Look at Canada in the mail. Begin studying the book as soon as you receive it. You will receive a Notice to Appear for a Citizenship Test. You should appear on the date and time at the address in the Notice, and take the written citizenship test or interview with a judge as requested. The test evaluates two aspects: your knowledge of Canada and your language abilities.
If you meet all the requirements, you will receive a Notice to Appear to Take the Oath of Citizenship. During that ceremony, you will take the oath of citizenship and receive a certificate of Canadian citizenship.
