![]() Who can applyYou can pursue Canadian citizenship once you meet all of the following eligibility requirements:
- You are a permanent resident (landed immigrant) of Canada 18 years of age or older by the time you apply - You have lived in Canada for at least three of the four years preceding your application; you should count as half-time (up to a maximum of 730 half days which equals 365 days credit) the time you resided in Canada before you became a permanent resident, but the time you resided in Canada after you became a permanent resident counts as full time - You are able to communicate in either English or French - You must be able to demonstrate some knowledge in Canada's political system, history and geography as well as knowledge of the Canada's civil rights and responsibilities to be able to pass the citizenship test (adults of 55 years of age are exempt) - You do not have a criminal record, are not facing criminal charges or subject to immigration enforcement action. Note: You cannot meet the residence requirements for citizenship without a minimum of 2 years as a permanent resident. |
