Citizenship test

Who can aply

British citizenship can be pursued  by foreign nationals who are permanent residents, that is, have been granted Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR), via naturalisation process.
There are two main paths to applying for naturalisation:
-naturalisation after five years in the UK, or

In either case, you have to fulfill the following criteria:
- you must be over 18 years of age and be of sound mind,
- you must be of good character and you should have a satisfying knowledge of English, Welsh, or Scottish Gaelic (there are exemptions to elderly people),
- you must be willing and able to pass the UK government's Life in the UK test before you submit your application

The additional criteria are different depending on the specific circumstances of each case.
